    WAC Testing

What is Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) Testing?

Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) Testing is now mandatory by law following the introduction of the Landfill Regulations in 2005. This means that all organisations have a responsibility to dispose of hazardous waste.

The purpose of WAC Testing is to analyse the leaching ability of contaminants in a waste sample in order to identify how they will behave once buried in a landfill. This involves applying an acceptance leaching test, which requires the taking of a representative sample of waste and preparing a leachate in water under specific testing conditions.

    Do you need this service?

    Why is WAC Testing important?

As your business is legally obligated to dispose of potentially harmful waste appropriately, it’s vital that any advice you receive comes from a specialist laboratory. The team at Alfred H Knight can assist you in determining what landfill your material should go to, whilst helping you to achieve a full understanding of your materials.

We collaborate with accredited partners to carry out WAC Testing after waste has been classified as either non-hazardous or hazardous by a characterisation test.

There are also different types of WAC tests and the particular type required will depend on the classification of the waste. In other words, waste classification will tell you what the material is and a WAC test will tell you where it can be disposed of.
